CY0P Sable Island 1-11/10/2013

Gary VE1RGB and Murray WA4DAN have announced plans to be active from Sable Island between October 1 – 11, 2013.

Approvals are in hand from Parks Canada and the Canadian Coast Guard. They have chartered a Britten Norman Islander aircraft with Maritime Air Charter Ltd for landing on the beach.

The call CY0P has been issued for the DXpedition. CY0P (Parks) call was chosen in recognition of the newest National Park in Canada.

VE1RGB is a veteran of two previous CY0 DXpeditions and is a top CW contester. WA4DAN has coordinated two previous CY0 DXpeditions, including the October 2012 DXpedition that was cut short due to Hurricane Sandy.

An all band 160-10 meter, CW/SSB/RTTY operation is planned.

UPDATE — The CY0P DXpedition team is pleased to announce that Rick, AI5P has joined them. Rick has operated from more than 70 DXCC countries and adds a second CW operator to the team.

The CY0P DXpedition is scheduled for October 1-11, 2013. Preparations are on schedule. The team has also received three new mono-band yagi antennas for their activity.

UPDATE – The only change to the trip now is its duration. Rather than returning on 11 Oct, for a number of safety (wx) and cost considerations, the return date will be on either 7, 8, or 9 October.
