EG3INT/7 Alborán Island AF-042
After a full year of working on required permits from different authorities, the Invoker Team’s project finally has been given the green light to activate another island, half-way between Europe and Africa: Alborán island, AF-042.
Why EG3INT/7 instead of EG3INT/9 ?
Most IOTA chasers will have in their collection a QSL card from Alboran – under the EA9 prefix – as the last activation there was in 2005.
But in 2006, the Spanish regulation changed and Alboran was “returned†to Almeria province, where it always belonged to – thus Spain’s Telecommunications Authority has issued to us this special callsign EG3INT/7
The RSGB IOTA Committee has already been informed about this change and they have decided not to alter the reference number. Therefore it will still count as AF-042.
Team: EA3ATM Jordi, EA3DW Jaume, EA3NT Christian, EA3OR Ramon & EA5KA Raul. Active from February 16-20, 2012.
The aim of the team is to have up to 3 simultaneous stations on air, covering most HF bands in order to give a fair chance to all operators worldwide who need this IOTA reference, working mostly on SSB and CW modes.
Reference numbers: IOTA: AF-042, WLOTA: 1061, ARLHS: SPA-145, DIE: S-001, DME: 04013, GRID: IM85LW
