Murray, WA4DAN and Ron, AA4VK are scheduling their third attempt to activate Sable Island in September/October, 2012. The exact dates are being worked out with the Sable station and Environmental Canada.

The Team will plan to go the first opportunity allowed, which is expected to be early October. We are committed to make Sable Island happen in 2012.

UPDATE: WA4DAN and AA4VK are excited to announce that they have received approvals from “Parks Canada”, “Canadian Coast Guard”, and “Officer-in-Charge, Sable Island” to operate amateur radio from October 8 – 17, 2012.

They note, however, that their permit to operate includes several new restrictions on antennas (in addition to the traditional restrictions for Sable). The purpose of these restrictions are to minimize the environmental impact on the migratory bird population that may be present during the period they are on Sable Island.

This operation will be highly focused on 10, 12 and 15 meters where most demand for CY0 exists. We continue to discuss antenna options due to the restrictive environment we will be operating under.

Ron, AA4VK and Murray, WA4DAN have announced a two week delay in the start of the CY0 DXpedition. The new dates are October 22 – 31. Unfortunately, circumstances beyond our control prevented us from being able to fly to Sable Island on October 8, our original schedule.

The revised schedule, however, will put us on Sable Island during the CQWW Phone contest weekend and even though we do not plan to compete in the contest, we do plan to provide a new country, Sable Island, to those in the contest.

Murray, WA4DAN and Ron, AA4VK announce that everything is set for their operation from Sable Island beginning October 22-31. The weather forecast for Monday looks good, at this time. The only concern is the beach conditions. Rain is forecast for Sunday which could potentially affect the “beach runway”.

UPDATE: Weather conditions are deteriorating. Maritime Air is enroute to Sable Island. We expect to go QRT and depart Sable Island by 1900Z.
