VK0JJJ Mawson Station Antarctica

Amateur radio station VK0JJJ at Mawson Station consists of a Flex 5000A (SDR) transceiver, Emtron DX-2SP linear amplifier, MFJ - 986 Tuner, Heil PR-781 desk mic & Heil Pro Set Elite headset and a Sloping triangle antenna.

I will be travelling to the Australian Antarctic Station "Mawson" by the ice breaker Aurora Australis mid January as an expeditioner on the 2013/14 Australian National Antarctic Research Expedition. I will be wintering at Mawson Station for approximately twelve months returning to Australia around January 2014.

Whilst there I hope to be QRO on bands 160m to 6m with a lot of focus given to 6m operation. I plan on installing a 6m propagation beacon to monitor openings kindly donated by David N3DB Secretary / Treasurer of The 6 Meter Beacon Project inc. Modes will be SSB and digital. At this stage equipment is still in the planning stages;

Main rig will probably be a Flex 5000A
160m - 10m (Either 400 watts or 1000 watts depending on license conditions)
160m - 10m Amplifier Emtron DX-2sp
6m (Either 100 watts or 400 watts depending if I can borrow a power amp)

6m Beacon antenna - either 1 or 2 HO loops
Main 6m antenna - either 1 or 2 HO loops or 3 element yagi
160 - 10m antenna - sloping triangle

UPDATE – Ship departs 17th Jan 2013 and arrives at Mawson station 10th Feb 2013.

UPDATE - Craig VK0JJJ is currently at Davis station carrying out a re-supply. He is scheduled to depart Davis on the 3rd February arriving at Mawson station around the 7th February.

UPDATE - Craig VK0JJJ informs his transceiver has been damaged by static and he can no longer operate on SSB. He’s now restricted to CW, digital modes & 6m EME.
