A team from the Egyptian Radio Amateur Society for Development ( ERASD ) plans activity from Nelson Island AF-109 during mid-April 2013. Belonging to the Nile Delta and Sinai Region Group, this IOTA has never been activated.

The group hope to be active for one week on all HF bands.

UPDATE from QSL manager, SM5AQD on the upcoming first time IOTA activation of Nelson’s Island AF-109



The club members at ERASD together with SU1SK and the SU8N team, after all working hard, now have official documents for the activation in place.

They will try to enter the island on Friday and try to be there 24 hours around the clock but it’s possible that they can only be there for 10-12 hours during the day – the military determine length of stay.

They have permission for a week but it costs around 400 USD per day so right now they be there for 3 days, kindly asking that sponsors can come up with some additional funding.

We thank Tony LZ1JY for printing the cards. The logs will be in my hands after the activity so I will sort out the QSL-ing from here in Sweden. Wait for instructions how to QSL before sending.

UPDATE: The SU8N team hope to be active on Thursday and Friday after fixing their generator. QSL manager SM5AQD informs they will work only 15 and 20m – and to please not work SU8N again if you have already – IOTA rules state one QSO is enough so no need to dupe.

SU8N are now QRT from AF-109.
