Mike, WU2D informs readers of his plans to activate San Felix island:

"I am in the process of obtaining a Chilean licence for San Felix as I’m feeling certain I will be on a team to install equipment for the Chilean Navy on the island. I just found out today that I am a candidate for the team that will be going over. I do not have exact dates yet but it will likely be in mid-June 2013 coming right up. This will be a spare time situation (15, 17 & 20m, CW/SSB) and I will have minimal antennas and only an ICOM-7000 at my disposal. I am presently in Iquique, Chile."

Mike WU2D has updated OPDX with the following

"My reciprocal license was finally received from Santiago on June 21st. Thank you Radio Club de Chile for helping to facilitate this. CE0Z/WU2D will be my call. Also, CE1/WU2D for mainland.

I am confirmed to go to the island on the 8th of July. Although I have asked, I still have no definite answer from the Navy that I will be able to actually operate a station but I will be prepared to do so. Keeping fingers crossed."

Mike WU2D updated OPDX with the following

If I actually get permission and time, I will attempt to activate CE0X/WU2D. I will likely start calling then filter by districts and zones and will be on 14.185 or 190 TX and listening up 5. I also want to try CW on 30M since Chile just opened that up and it will be a first for San Felix. Realistically, I cannot see that I will be operational until July 12-13th

NEWS UPDATE Unfortunately, even though Mike W2UD had his radio equipment with him, the Armada (Chilean Navy on the island) would not let him operate from San Felix, and he is now back on the mainland. It’s unknown if he has plans to return. [tnx KH6CG]

WU2D will be active from San Felix Island ( IOTA SA-013 ) 8-13 July 2014 as CE0X/WU2D
He will be active on 20,17,15m mainly SSB
