H40IOTA Temotu

Ralph, H44RK updates:

By the time you are reading this I am most likely to be on the way to Temotu, or even there already. I will evaluate the many factors; weather, propagation, location, a safe place to leave the boat unattended, etc. and determine which OC or OC’s to activate while in the area. I will be announcing my activities as soon as I am able to. I will be then be active for a few hours each day.

UPDATE Ralph, H44RK has arrived Temotu. He is anchored in a small bay (south of Shaw Point) 2NM from Lata, Nendo Island.

So far unknown when H40IOTA will be active.

UPDATE - Ralph, H44RK informs he has finished operations from Nendo Island, OC-100 and plans to arrive Swallow Islands, OC-065 within the next 18 hours. (1500+ calls were logged from Nendo.)

Ralph says he will be meeting with Oceans Watch to discuss the installation of the first VHF base station for the Temotu Pilot project.

After the project side of things is complete, H40IOTA will be QRV on 20 and 15m. Times are usually 07:00z – 09:00z on 14.260 and after that on 21.260. [At this stage he is not sure when ops will begin as a suitable QTH will have to be found].

UPDATE from Bob, K3EST – Ralph, signing as H40IOTA/MM, checked into the ANZA net last Friday informing he would be returning to Nendo OC-100.

After Temotu activity he will sail to YJ Vanuatu, but so far unclear if he intends to activate Duff or Reef Islands when there.

UPDATE - Within the next week, Ralph H40IOTA hopes to be active from Vanikolo OC-163 once a suitable QTH is chosen.

After OC-163, Ralph will head to Vanuatu and operate as YJ0RK from Torres OC-110 and Banks OC-104.

No set dates on the YJ-IOTA activations, but SV Hafskip will be sailing Vanuatu waters for the next 2 months, then heading to New Caledonia.
