EH5HCO 75th anniversary of the sinking of Olite Castillo
Members of the Cartagena team activate a special call EH5HCO from 24 to 30 March, for the 75th anniversary of the sinking of Olite Castillo. On the morning of March 7, 1939 the ship "Castle Olite" confident approaching the port of Cartagena. In its wineries, more than 2,000 soldiers from the army of Franco anxiously awaited entry into a city that believed the enemy won. The nearby whistle of a bullet must have helarles blood. Immediately after, another shell hit the warehouse in carrying ammunition, bursting the vessel, which sank within minutes taking with it the lives of 1,477 soldiers, in what is the worst maritime tragedy of contemporary Spain.
