North and South Cooks news 2015
Andy, E51AND updates readers with the following:
Rarotongan-Beach2015 is the 50th Anniversary of Self Governance in the Cook Islands.
To celebrate, hams resident in the Cook Islands will be granted the use of a special 1×1 call sign in the form E50x from January 1st to December 31st 2015.
Listen out for: Warwick E50W on Penrhyn Island (OC-082) N. Cooks — he is mostly on 6M and 10m WSPR; Des E50D on Aitutaki Island (OC-083); and on Rarotonga (OC-013) look for: Jim E50J; Victor E50V; and Bob E50B on SSB; Andy E50A on SSB and QRS CW; and, the only YL ham in the Cooks, Kat as E50K.
Just a note – we are pretty isolated, have extremely limited internet access and none of us are avid DXers — much more the rag chewing types, and none of currently eQSL or LoTW (though I am working at it but sure could use an Elmer!! LOL) – so if you or your friends hear us – bear with us :-) It could be a crazy year!
Visitors to the island wishing to operate will be eligible only for the standard E51xxx style call with the E50 reserved for those living here.
