N9D Andrea Doria Special Event
SS Andrea Doria Sinking 1951. On July 25, 1956, the SS Andrea Doria collided with the MS Stockholm off the coast of Nantucket in heavy fog. The andrea Doria was the pride of the Italian Ocean Liners, nicknamed "The Grand Dame of the Sea." 11 hours after the collision, on the morning of July 26, the Andrea Doria capsized and sank. While no lives were actually lost in the sinking, 46 individuals died from the initial collision. Nathan, KC9HYY will be active as special event station N9D in remembrance of the 64th anniversary of the sinking. Operation times will be July 25 2015 0000 UTC to July 29 2359 UTC. Nathan will be active on HF bands 10-40m, VHF, UHF and 6m operating SSB and various digital modes including PSK31, JT65 and RTTY.
