ARGENTINE ANTARCTIC DAY
To celebrate Dia de la Antartida Argentina (22 February), a few amateur radio stations at LU bases under the Antarctic Joint Command are expected to be QRV between 22 February and 10 March, subject to the availability of Antarctic operators and propagation conditions: LU1ZA (Orcadas, South Orkneys, AN-008), LU1ZD (San Martin, Antarctica, AN-016), LU1ZG (Belgrano II, Antarctica, AN-016), LU1ZI (Carlini, South Shetlands, AN-010), LU1ZR (Petrel, Antarctica, AN-013), LU1ZV (Esperanza, Antarctica, AN-016), LU4ZS (Marambio, Antarctica, AN-013). The Argentine Antarctic Day commemorates the inauguration of the Meteorological Observatory on Laurie Island (South Orkneys) on 22 February 1904, which later became the Orcadas Base. Argentina has maintained an uninterrupted presence in Antarctica since then.
