I had a great day yesterday, January 17, 2025.
All-time first activator for US – 10353 Trinity Island, Louisiana. I had to drive to Cocodrie La., six hours, and charter a fishing boat to take me to the island. I needed two different permits from the Louisiana Fish And Wildlife. I had to talk to the head of that protected area, Tyson Couch, he was very helpful and supportive. He informed me that they had actually recently closed the island to any visitors, but he was going to give me a one day special permit. I had to email hime when I got to the island, and when I left.
I set up my chameleon 25 foot with Cha Micro and 16 radials, and my Yeasu FTDX 10. I had 109 contacts in about an hour and a half. My boat captain left to go fishing for a little while which we had agreed to. Sitting on a sandbar in the open Gulf of Mexico / America), by yourself is special. It was great. Since I did this yesterday, the Louisiana webpage has been updated saying the island is now off-limits. Here is a picture of my station on the island.
