GB1MT (Marley Telegraph) is a special event station held at Marley, South Brent, Devon.

The dates are: Monday 4th October until 0800 UTC on Saturday 9th October 2010.


Marley is in grid square IO80ck.

The site at Marley is 630 feet high (192) metres.

Marley is the 19th Signal Station of 22 on the Plymouth Line. The first is Chalton and the last is Plymouth.

Location: This site is just off the A38 18 miles from Plymouth in one direction and 4.5 miles from Buckfastleigh in the other.

This event commemorates the fact that it is over 200yrs since the shutter telegraph first operated at this site. QSL CARD DETAILS: The card shows a copy of an original copper plate print and depicts the shutter telegraph that was mounted on top of Admiralty Office in London in 1795 and some of the shutter positions. There is another original print in the National Maritime Museum. The print was produced in February 1796, the year after it was first installed. The text gives an explanation of how it worked.
