Captain Jà ³zef Budzik was born 21 January 1891,in ÅÄ™kawica near Tarnà ³w. His parents, StanisÅ‚aw and Marianna, brought him up to love his homeland and to act like a patriot. Jà ³zef Budzik attended primary and secondary school in Tarnà ³w. He served at the Italian and Romanian front as a soldier of the Austro-Hungarian Army. He was wounded in the leg and then spent some time recovering in Baden. WhenPoland regained its independence and the polish-soviet war took place he was a lieutenant in the Polish Army. He waspromoted to the Rank of Kapitan 1 july 1923. Since that time he server in the 16 thInfantry Regiment. In 1932 he was moped to the Army Reserve Komand to serve as a clerk. Some time later he was appointed as a deputy for the commanding officer. He was considered a righteous officer, great patriot, devoted community worker, and an architekt of erecting of the school building in his home village. In september 1939 He was taken prisoner by the soviets. In spring 1940 He was murdered by the Sowiet Secret Police NKVD. He was buried in the Katyn
Forest. His body was given number 909.
