SILENT KEY
Roger Western, G3SXW passed away on 24 April. He had been either in hospital or in a nursing home since late October 2019, when he fell off a ladder while clearing leaves from the roof gutter on his house and suffered serious injuries.
Born on 1 September 1946 and licensed in 1964, during the Seventies he lived in Iran and operated as EP2IA (1976-1979); he often visited Afghanistan on business and managed to get on the air a few times as YA1R. He was best known, however, for his CW DXpeditions and contesting, so much so that he was inducted into both the CQ Contest Hall of Fame (1998) and the CQ DX Hall of Fame (2007).
His CQ WW DX CW Contest operations with the Three A's Contest Group from Guernsey (1981 and 1982), Jersey (1983-86) and Luxembourg (LX/G0AAA 1987) were followed by 4U0ITU (1989), CN5N (1990), C56N (1991), ZC4Z (1992), ZF2WW 1993).
