Amateur radio field day 2016 ham radio
Have you ever been to a field day event for amateur radio? Field day is once a year, not counting winter field day, that hams all across the country get together and operate remotely in the field, OR just casually at home. Stations compete in a point system, calculating points for each contact, and multipliers for running on solar or wind power, maritime mobile and other fun stuff. The more contacts made in this 24 hours means more points total between your group. This video of field day is in Vero Beach Florida, or rather Wabasso, which is a couple miles north of Vero Beach, right at the foot of the causeway. The class here was 3a, 3 stations operating on emergency power. 3a. Next year we anticipate 5a, with 5 stations logging points. All stations at the event collectively log into a networked logging system on computers to avoid duplicate stations worked, and a total of all CW, phone and digital contacts made. Check it out, and check out my other field day videos, like the balloon vertical long wire.
