VP6R Pitcairn Island 2019 DXpedition by Arnie Shatz, N6HC


As Arnie provided as an intro to his talk: “Remember Dxpeditions? Haven’t heard about any amateur radio trips in the past 18 months? Take a trip down Memory Lane to Pitcairn Island which was activated just before Covid-19 reared its ugly head. Learn a little history about The HMS Bounty, mutineers and amateur radio on this very isolated South Pacific Island.”

In addition to the items above, Arnie noted that this was likely the first DXpedition making exclusive use of the FlexRadio transceivers as the primary radio. Interesting too is that the most QSO’s were still on CW, followed by FT8 and then the number of SSB. Europe was a DXpedtion focus and that goal was achieved. QSO total for all modes was 82,222.
