PiHRAB-2, First Croatian Amateur Radio Balloon

On 01.09.2013., at 13.00 hours local time, 15:00 UTC, on a football field FC “Bilogora” in Kapela, near Bjelovar, members of the Radio Club “Bilogora” Bjelovar, the second time in Croatia, realease the free flying amateur radio balloon with helium, PiHRAB-2.The idea of ​​the project come after a very successful release of the first Croatian Amateur Radio balloon PiHRAB-1.

In the beginning the idea of ​​releasesecond Croatian Amateur Radio Balloon, PiHRAB-2,has started from few members of amateur radio club “Bilogora” from Bjelovar, who have invested their time, money and equipment to make that the project come to life.

After a long preparation, within a few months the team has managed to collect all the necessary equipment (balloon, parachute, etc.), make all the circuits that are needed (voltage stabilization, timers, APRS, refit the radio, etc.), as well as associated equipment (antennas, radar reflector, batteries, boxes, etc.) and finally obtain all the permits from the competent authorities.In the project we got involved and FC “Bilogora” from Kapela, near Bjelovar, who kindly give us a permits to use spaces of football field FC “Bilogora” from Kapela, near Bjelovar. On the day of the release of the second balloon Croatian football club members will also assist in the organization and other things that make the project successfully completed.

Space provided loads falling:in the range of about 150 km from the release point

Payload without balloons: 1.5 Kg

Balloon weight: 800 g

Filling the balloon: helium

The package includes: transmitter on the frequency 145.200 MHz, output power 300 mW, GPS device (sending position, altitude, speed), APRS, various sensors (temperature inside the package, outside temperature, battery), battery, antenna, video camera, transmitter 2.414GHz, Voice Parrot, 433.400 MHz receiver in balloon payload

Frequencys: 145.200 MHz, APRS telemetry (Packet Radio) and FM parrot

1.3 GHz, 700mW Video transfer
433.400 MHz – Emergency cut down system receiver in balloon payload

The package is on the outside equipped with:sound and light signals, radar reflector size 20x20x10 cm, 56” parachute

Package box: Styrofoam, covered on the outside with a reflective film

We invite all radio amateurs from Croatia and neighboring countries to this day listen on the frequency 145.200 MHz and submit reports on audible signal at email: mile.strk@bj.t-com.hr Each report will be confirmed with Letter of thanks of Radio Club “Bilogora”Bjelovar.

We also request all hams for cooperation and that same day in the period 13:00 to 15:00 hours local time, 15:00 to 17:00 UTC, do not use the frequency 145.200 MHzand 433.400 MHz for any transmission.

We also invite all who can to come and attend in person, the project released balloons.
