GB75CR 75th Anniversary of Canewdon Radar

On Sunday the 8th of September 2013, the Thames Amateur Radio Group will be joining the people of Canewdon with te special call GB75CR to mark the 75th anniversary of the Canewdon Chain Home Towers. The Towers: The three 360ft steel towers and the 280ft wooden towers were a local landmark throughout the 2nd World War, and were a vital part of Britain's early RADAR defenses. The towers were removed in the 1950s, and one of the towers is now located at BAE Systems in Great Baddow - The Tower was recently activated under the callsign of G100RSGB as part of the RSGB's centenary celebrations. The Thames Amateur Radio Group aims to be active on Sunday the 8th September on both HF and 2 metres. The event will be attended by a comprehensive military presence, and with all three services taking part including the RAF's Aerial Erector School, now based at RAF
