Fifty years after the initial activation, team SV1GA/A (KO8SCA, OH2BH, OH2GEK, SV1GA and YO8WW) was QRV from a camp "up in the mountains" of Mount Athos starting around 16 UTC on 25 January. "Our Mt. Athos written amateur radio permit allows us to operate for 10 days", they stated, "which means that we will be on the air until February 3, 2025". However, they went off the air at around 9 UTC on 27 January amid controversy regarding the legitimacy of the operation.
"The matter of Amateur Radio in Mt Athos is in the hands of different entities within the Holy Community, and all we can do at this point is serve as source of knowledge and expertise", Martti, OH2BH wrote on 29 January. "For us the key entity is the authority that issued our invitation/permit to carry out the SV1GA operation. Our paperwork is as clear as water, but outside sources have put everything on hold for further review".
On 30 January, Martti announced that, while awaiting a response from the local authorities that had issued their permit, the team had taken the decision to leave Mount Athos and return home. Some 13,500 QSOs have been uploaded to Club Log.
