PRESS RELEASE #3

This has been a busy month for the C82DX team. With only 90 days before we are QRV, we have filled the remaining operating positions and added several individuals to our off site support team. Joining us are such well known DXers as Bill, K1MM; Bruce, W6OSP, Charlie NF4A and Wild Bill, N2WB. Our South African contingent now includes Pierre, ZS6PJH, Chairman of the Pretoria ARC.

We now have secured the vehicles and trailers that will take us overland from Pretoria to Xai Xai, Mozambique. South African members of our team have traveled to Xai Xai to map the operating site and make a deposit on our rented compound. Coax, laptops, and extra linears have been sourced.

In addition to our team license, our team members have all received personalized C92 callsigns.

Low Band operations remain the primary objective and we have secured both Titanex and Battle Creek Special verticals. We have also obtained the sponsorship of Array Solutions with one of their new shared apex loop array RX systems and W3YY FSK/CW interfaces. They join ICOM (our main equipment supplier with IC7600s) and SteppIR (CrankIRs) as our major donors to our DXpedition.

During the day we will operate all HF bands including 6 meters.

C82DX is ready to roll.

On September 28th two pallets with over 800 lbs. of radios, antennas, computers, coax and other items needed for our sizeable DXpedition to Mozambique left Kennedy Airport on South African Airways flight 204.

This marks the last benchmark for C82DX to be operational by October 14th. Will be active until the morning of October 23 giving us 9 evenings of low band opportunities.

Operators depart from Japan, Canada and the US next week to convene in Pretoria on the 12th for loading the caravan for the trip to Xai at 5 AM on the 13th. Upon arrival the first antennas to go up are the low band Titanex, Battle Creek and Big IR verticals. After that the listening loops and beverages, beams, and VHF antennas will be erected.

Our final team consists of: JN1THL, K6RB, K6TD, K8EAB, N1DG, N4NX, N4XP, N9JA, NF4A, VA7DX, W6OAT, WF4W, ZS6P, ZS6PJH, and ZS6RI.

C82DX UPDATE — Xai Xai is located on the Indian Ocean and is a high wind location. That has hindered our low band antenna progress. Yesterday the Battle Creek went up and today despite the high winds the Titanex is now up.

This completes the basic complement of Battle Creek, Titanex, Hex Beam and 2 SteppIR big IRs. The beverage for 160 is out and we will continue to add to receive antennas each day in different directions.

Last night 80 has been slow and we are dealing with noisy conditions. We are now running 4 stations 24/7 as conditions allow. We have been told our TX frequency is blocked in EU by radar. We will now transmit on 3513.00

We are QRV until Wednesday morning local time giving us 7 more nights on 80 and 160.
